The heat phase (sauna) promotes vasodilation, increased blood flow, and activation of heat-shock proteins associated with cellular repair and cardiovascular health. The cold phase (cold plunge) induces vasoconstriction, stimulates the sympathetic nervous system, and supports reductions in inflammation and perceived muscle soreness. Alternating between the two creates a controlled vascular “pump,” helping move blood, oxygen, and metabolic by-products through the body more efficiently.

Beyond physical recovery, contrast therapy plays a measurable role in nervous system training. Repeated exposure to heat and cold, combined with controlled breathing, can improve stress resilience, autonomic balance, and overall tolerance to physical and mental load.
